Åland’s autonomy

The autonomy gives Åland the right to pass laws in areas relating to the internal affairs of the region and to exercise its own budgetary powers. Among areas covered are education, culture and the preservation of ancient monuments, health and medical care, the environment, promotion of industry (including agriculture and fishing), internal transports, local government (municipal level), policing, postal communications and radio and television.
